Tennis Virgins

We will be starting on Thursday evenings weekly from May 8 to the end of September. From mid July the session will move to a Wednesday evening.

Coaching is provided by Keelan Oakley a professional tennis coach who also coaches the BLAGSS Intermediate group. 4 courts are available for up to 16 players.

Sessions will run from 7.15-8.15pm and then for a further 30 minutes for recreational play.

Tennis Virgins is a friendly, relaxed group which welcomes ‘rusty players’ and improvers alike. It is a perfect place for people who have not played tennis in a while or for those who do not feel they have the skills or confidence necessary to join the BLAGSS Tennis group. The sessions are not suitable for absolute beginners who have not played before.

Players will need to bring their own racquet and there will be an opportunity to play games after the coaching finishes, while it is still light.

 

 

Tennis Virgins 2025 season

Coaching sessions take place at the University courts at FALMER. Access via Mill St, Falmer BN1 9PE. Continue along Mill St and turn left into Ridge Road, car park is 100m on left hand side opposite ‘the old police station’.

The session will be coached by Keelan Oakley who will organise the 1 hour session via the TV Whats App group. Courts are available for a further 30 minutes after the session for recreational play.

The cost of each session is £8 (if 5 or more people attend) which is payable in cash or by debit card to Keelan on the day. If 4 people attend the cost is £10. If the session is cancelled for reasons including weather or coach availability you will be notified via the WhatsApp group.

How We Play

Our goal is to provide basic instruction and coaching to help players get to a level where they can confidently participate in the regular group or play on a club level (e.g. understanding of the game and ability to hit the ball over the net and serve properly). We play a mixture of drills/games both singles and doubles, depending on how many attend.

Coaching is provided by Keelan Oakley a professional tennis coach.
