Where and When We Play
Where: Brighton Girls School, Temple Gardens, BN1 3AT. The sports hall is the modern grey building accessed through the gates that look like a butterfly, near Montpelier Road. Parking is available next door at Brighton Girls Prep school, or opposite at Brighton Girls main building. The 18 and 21 bus run along Montpelier Road, or it's an easy walk from Western Road and Seven Dials. Brighton Railway Station is 15 minutes walk away.
When: Every Tuesday 7:30PM - 9:30PM, sometimes followed by a drink at The Cresent pub for those who want to.
How we play
We have exclusive use of three courts for mixed doubles. It's an informal set up - when a court becomes free, hop on and see who has joined you on court. Club regulars will have a general idea of the level of different players, and may suggest particular parings for an evenly matched game. We typically get about 16 players turning up each week so we can mix and match different games as players come off court.
Everyone is welcome to turn up and play - there's no need to pre-register. Most players bring their own racquets, but we do have a few available to borrow if you're new to badminton or visiting Brighton.
What it costs
Court fees: We charge £8 per session which covers the cost of hiring the hall for two hours.
New and occasional players: Please register and pay using the appropriate dated session below. Payments are non-refundable, but are transferable. You can also pay by card on the night, but the card reader can be a bit of a diva, so online payments are preferred. We do not accept cash.
Regular players: At the start of each month you'll be able to pay for the whole month in advance using an option below. For committing to the month you'll get a 25% discount, which means even if you miss a session you won't be out of pocket.
BLAGSS Membership: New to BLAGSS? you can attend your first session without an annual membership (pay by card on the night). After your first session you'll need to join BLAGSS in order to continue.
Summer Club Tournament
We're looking to organise a fun tournment aimed at any members who expect to come to at least half of our regular sessions over the next couple of months. All you need to do is register below and we'll let you know who to play with, when and how you're doing in the tournament. You won't play every week, so if you can't make a given week then just give us 24 hours notice and we'll be make sure not to schedule any games for you.
That's all you need to know, but if you want the details then read on.
Format - Group Stage
We'll divide everyone who registers into groups of four who all plan to attend on the same evening. Each group will then play 3 tournament games that evening, with a different partner for each game, meaning you'll get a chance to partner with everyone in your group once. After you've played your tournament games, please mix and match with other club members as usual for the rest of the evening.
The following week we'll send out new groups of four, so you'll have new partners and opponents - or it might be a week off.
Scoring
Tell us your scores for the three games and we'll calculate your tournament scores.
Everyone will be scored individually. You will receive 50 points for each game that you win, and your game score for each game that you lose. For example, you may have three matches as follows:

Finals
After 5 group rounds, the four players with the top scores will progress through to the final. This time you'll need to win all three games to claim the tournament victory.
If after three games there isn't a clear winner, then the top two players on the night will go head to head in a singles match to determine who will be crowned champion.
Badminton WhatsApp Groups Information
We have two WhatsApp Groups for easier communication between our regular members. We have our Official Badminton WhatAapp Group and a Social Badminton WhatsApp Group. If you would like to join either group please let Kevin know when you attend a session.
We also send out important messages by email. Join the mailing list below if you're not already receiving them.
